Sneak sneak sneak

It probably would've been a whole lot simpler if Eli had just introduced Kai to his family a while ago, passing him off as a boy he'd met in town. Instead he'd decided to keep him a secret, taking special care to not get caught when they went on their little adventures offworld. Ray had been the exception; Eli just hadn't been able to resist introducing his favorite magic teacher in all the worlds to his best friend in all of them...

Okay, second best friend. Larkin was his first and always would be, but Kai was a really, really close second. 'Jem was coming in right after that, and Ronan was pretty neat too.

In any case, if he'd come clean about it in the beginning, he and Kai wouldn't have been sneaking their way up the stairs to his room on the second floor.

"...For bugs. We're acting like we're in a castle full of Heartless so you can show me your bugs."

It was a whisper, but it still carried Kai's disbelief. Eli paused and turned back to grin, his answer just as quiet.

"Not my bugs, the notebooks on my bugs. I've studied some really great ones, you know."

"You're the weirdest guy I know."

"Thanks for the compliment."

Eli snickered, then continued up the stairs as Kai poked him in the back. Once they reached the second floor, both stood frozen, listening. Eli's room was at the end of the hall, and the doors between were all shut...

Except one.

Larkin Eli mouthed at Kai, and gestured for him to follow as quietly as he could manage. If they were lucky, they'd be able to slip right by.

Old and crotchety

With Song and Amy out having adventures, I am at home watching all of our offspring. And I wonder why I'm never asked on adventures, but someone has to be practical, and I suppose that's what being the big sister is about.

I feel bad for Ashlyn, because in practice she has so many of them. I'm sure that one day the others will drive her crazy with worry too.

October Gifts

So who exactly is the white rose from?
And the snail-shell bracelet?
Don't think the date escapes me.
If you're just messing with me, Mab, it wasn't very nice.

Larkin especially likes the bracelet, though. I'll try to keep her from eating the shells.

Btw, Amy, I hadn't gotten around to mentioning it, but I went back looking for the window. No sign for months now. Maybe it resolved itself.

I've got the itch to go poke at the world barrier again, but there's always something else to do.

Wanna fly up there with me, Ames?

Something's not right [log]

It was late one midsummer night, less than an hour before midnight, when Song came skulking through the hallways of Rainbow's End, wearing nothing more than a nightgown so sheer that one could make out the purple panties underneath.

It wasn't far to the room shared by Amy and Jalen, which was where she stopped, tapping insistently on the door.

"Psst. Amy. Ammmmyyyy... You awake? Amy, I figured it out...."

[Backdated to 6/17 'cause I am a horrible person & forgot]

I was kinda driving myself nuts trying to figure out what we could do for Father's Day that would rank up there with what Jalen and the munchkins did for me, and I finally just...asked him. Which I think is a first so far. What answer did I get?

Time.

Welcome to funny looks land, but y'know, I got it after a minute. So we spent the day doing stuff we always do, playing with the rugrats and curling up on our bed reading to them, and Jalen promising his happily drooling daughter he'll teach her to use a sword someday if she wants...but somehow it was more important this time. It made Jale happy, which was all I wanted anyway.

That Mother's Day gift Jalen kept smirking about? A photo album. Not just any old album, though. It's full of pictures of me with the kids; our kids, and Ashlyn and Larkin...there's even some with him and the little ones. I remember taking a few of those, but I guess he had some help for the rest.

I can't stop smiling, the sap is too much. Oh, and Ladybug and Lanie made me little heart-shaped cookies (with help from daddy of course. Eli keeps insisting he did all the work, his sister just drooled). They're the most beautifully awkward cookies ever.

unless I'm delusional

That window thing's back.

Nevermind that it vanished into oblivion the last time I tried to show somebody.

Still wanna go, Amykins?

it's a thing

I found a thing!

Amy, you'll want to see this.

There's a cave in the cliffside of the Maw where Brixon spent the first winter, and later where Josiah hid out while he was coming to terms with being a little bit demon.

Only I went there and it's different now.

[DreamWriter's sitting on her bed; it doesn't look like she's been sleeping much if at all lately; some things seriously don't change even when she's stuck in one place]

Hi everyone. I'll come out of hiding now.

I wanted to write down and try to recreate what didn't make it back here with me before they got too foggy to remember. Still feels like I was dreaming it all. So yeah, that's why I haven't been about.

On the one hand, familiar as it was, I didn't want to be stranded there forever. I never forgot what existed beyond that world, but I don't want to forget what was there either. Both sides of the coin are important. That's more or less what I tried to hold on to.

Hopefully, my papers went to the boy like I told him they would if I managed to wake up... He...

[she sighs]

You would have liked him, Song.

I'll be down in a bit. I want tea. [she turns off the video]

Jale doesn't think it's fair that I'm monopolizing Lanie. Is so, I had to give birth to her. So there.

This post of utter maturity was brought to you by a sleepless night.

Day 9 since... no, I'm kidding

The prototype ship Zero built for me was supposed to be able to pierce through world barriers.

Apparently not.

I can't tell him so, either, as his side of the internet has ceased to exist.

I love you too, universe.

Waking [intro and log]

It is impossible to know how long the Dreaming lasted, but it did come to an end. It was, after all, intended only as a means of repairing the wounds which had festered too long in the fabric of space and time. All who wished to help were able, but it was slow going, days and nights indeterminate from each other. None worked harder than the Refugees, familiar as they were with so many worlds. It took care and precision to untwist the knots and tangles which had been left too long unattended, but they had at least one wise and patient guide. More, when the spirits of each world regained awareness and added their considerable power to the effort.

When it was over, the last spawn of Lavos locked away in darkness and the last fallen world forged anew from scraps and memory, the dreamers awoke.

It was early morning in Radiant Garden, the sky overcast and turbulent. Waking was not a lazy and soothing event as one rising in their own bed. Rather, the Refugees and townsfolk found themselves scattered about the city, standing as if they had just been about their business and had only forgotten where they were for a moment. Memory of the Dreaming varies from person to person, stronger for the most part in those who put more effort into the repairs. Even for those who recall every moment, it is the memory of a dream, disjointed and easily lost. For many, there is little or no recollection at all.

It is strikingly evident, however, that the city is brighter and more at peace than it has been in a long, long while. It will also become evident, to those who act on curiosity about the other worlds, that the barriers are back in place and impenetrable by ship or corridor. Even the network is blocked from the rest of the universe, allowing access only to the community and the journals of those present.

The Refugees are stranded on Radiant Garden.
